St. Patrick’s Parade Committee Selects 2007 Grand Marshal Tim Doyle

Tim passed on in December 2006.  His position of 2007 Grand Marshal was given posthumously and accepted by his son Timothy J.  Doyle, III. who will lead this year’s parade in his Father’s honour.   A long time resident of the Village of Wappingers Falls, Mr. Doyle was originally from New York City.  His parents were Timothy J. and Mary O’Leary Doyle.  He traced his heritage to County Mayo, Ireland.  While attending Power Memorial Academy in New York City he marched with the school band for many years in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  After high school he served his country in the United States Coast Guard.

He married Bridget “Bridie” Delee and they eventually made their way to Wappingers.  He retired from IBM in 1993.  They have three children, Mary Riedy and husband Dale;  Timothy Doyle III and wife Marcia; and Michael Doyle and wife Barbara.  The grandchildren are Theresa, Kathleen, and David Riedy; Jason, MacKenna, Patrick, and Daniel Doyle.

He was a member of the Dutchess County Ancient Order of Hibernians, V.F.W. Post #5913, Wappingers American Legion Post #1466, Wappingers Assembly Knights of Columbus #0770,  the Knights of Columbus Council #1646 of Wappingers Falls, New York Police Department Emerald Society, Rakkasan-New England Chapter, National Rifle Society, The Dutchess County Pistol Association and was a certified NRA instructor.  He was the V.F.W. and Village Tree Lighting Santa Claus for many years.

Tim was one of the original founders of the Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade.  He is being honored for his service to his country, Wappingers Falls, and his dedication to our local parade and his Irish heritage

Parade History

In the Fall of 1995, several members of the community and the Kevin Barry Irish Club gathered together to discuss the idea of a Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade. This idea became a fact when, on March 9, 1996, with the help and blessing of St. Mary’s Parish and the Wappingers Falls Village Board, the first Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade stepped off at 1:00 pm from St. Mary’s parking lot in Wappingers Falls.  Now entering our twelfth year the Parade has grown into the very enjoyable and dignified event that attracts thousands of participants and spectators from near and far.  This year the parade is in its 12th  year and will be held Saturday, March 3 in the Village of Wappingers Falls.
