NY Saint Patrick's Parade in the State of New
York (NY)
12th Annual Sleepy Hollow
-Tarrytown St. Patrick's Parade will be held on Sunday, March 16th, 2008.
The
parade will start at 1:30 p.m. from the formation areas in Tarrytown proceed
east up Main Street to Broadway, north to Beekman Ave., then west to the former
General Motors site.
The
Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, Inc. has announced that the Grand
Marshal of the 12th Annual Sleepy Hollow –Tarrytown St. Patrick’s Parade to be
held on Sunday March 16, 2008 is Tom Kennedy.
Tom Kennedy was
born in Maum, Camp, County Kerry, to James and Bridie Kennedy and is the
youngest of five children. In 1971, Tom immigrated to Westchester County, New
York, where he lived with his aunt, Margaret Curran, in the village of Ardsley.
In 1977, he married the former Eileen O’Connell (Lixnaw, County Kerry) and they
have been four beautiful children: Bernadette, Tom Jr., Siobhan and Breda.
During the late
1970’s Tom joined local 149 of the Carpenter’s Union in 1972. He then
established his own contracting business, which he still operates and manages
today under the name E.T. Kennedy Contracting. In the past 30 years, Tom has
built and restored countless homes in the Tri-State area.
In 1980, he
joined AOH Division 11 in Tarrytown, where he served as treasurer, Vice
President and President. He was Vice President and President of Westchester
County AOH. Tom is also a member of the American Irish Association and the
founding member and first President of Innisfail Golf Club. He is also currently
a member of the Irish Golf Association and Knollwood Country Club. In 1998, Tom
became a member of the Kerrymen’s Association, and was instrumental in the
purchase and renovation of the new Kerrymen’s Building at 305 McLean Avenue in
Yonkers. He served on the building committee for five years as chairman and
currently is Vice President of The Kerrymen’s Association.
After a trip to
the Dominican Republic he was struck by the poverty he found and its impact on
children. About four years ago, Tom joined with others who shared his view that
they could not stand idly by while people in the Third World lacked the basic
necessities of life. They were determined to provide some help, especially for
children who do not have access to proper nutrition, education or healthcare.
HOPe was founded in 2001 and Tom was elected Co-chairman. In this capacity, he
played a leading role in the planning and development of the organization. In
addition to this work in the Dominican Republic, HOPe has provided aid to a
community in Honduras.
Tom Kennedy has
engaged in every opportunity to improve the quality of life and dignity of other
human beings both as individuals and groups with specific needs.
Serving as Mr. Kennedy’s
Aides are: Kay Camillieri, Mary Gorman, Eileen Meade, JoAnne Murray, Jack
Downing, James Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy and James Mc Ginty. The Sleepy Hollow
Saint Patrick’s Parade Committee is proud to honor these sons and daughters of
Ireland who has given so much of their time and love to preserve the culture of
Ireland and continue to give unselfishly to their communities.

Grand Marshal of the 12th Annual Sleepy Hollow –Tarrytown St. Patrick’s
Parade to be held on Sunday March 16, 2008 is Tom Kennedy.

Moore, (Pearl River, NY) a descendent of Irish patriots and a woman who
has devoted her life to the preservation of Irish culture.
Mary Holt More is a descendent of General Joseph Holt, a leader of the
1798 Irish Rebellion in County Wicklow, and a cousin of Sean MacDiarmada
of the 1916 Irish Uprising. Her parents, Ann O’Rourke of County Leitrim,
and father Charles A. Holt Sr. of County Wicklow, Ireland were Irish
patriots who pursued the cause of Irish freedom.
Mary, born in the Bronx, NY and a graduate of Hunter College where she
founded the Hunter College Gaelic Society, and received her M.S. Degree
from the College of New Rochelle. She was Vice-Chairperson of the
Tri-State Chapter of the Irish American Solidarity Day Committee and
cultural chair of the Irish American National Unity Conference, a member
of the Emerald Society of the Board of Education in New York City, the
Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the County Leitrim& County Wicklow
Societies. She has served as the President of the Bronx Gaelic League and
Council of Gaelic Societies of New York. She was the second woman to be
honored as the Grand Marshal of the New York City St. Patrick’s Parade.
Mary is married to Thomas A. Moore (retired Deputy Chief FDNY), and
together they have passed down their love of Irish history and culture to
their eight children and 20 grandchildren.
Serving as Ms. Holt’s Aides are: Mary Forde, Rita O’Shea, Catherine
Courtney, Alice Droogan, Ken Tierney, Andy Murray, Patrick Forde and Rob
Sullivan. The Sleepy Hollow Saint Patrick’s Parade Committee is proud to
honor this daughter of Ireland who has given so much of her time and love
to preserving the culture of Ireland
