In 1977, he married the former Eileen O’Connell (Lixnaw, County Kerry) and they have been four beautiful children: Bernadette, Tom Jr., Siobhan and Breda.

During the late 1970’s Tom joined local 149 of the Carpenter’s Union in 1972.  He then established his own contracting business, which he still operates and manages today under the name E.T. Kennedy Contracting. In the past 30 years, Tom has built and restored countless homes in the Tri-State area.

In 1980, he joined AOH Division 11 in Tarrytown, where he served as treasurer, Vice President and President. He was Vice President and President of Westchester County AOH. They were determined to provide some help, especially for children who do not have access to proper nutrition, education or healthcare. HOPe was founded in 2001 and Tom was elected Co-chairman. In this capacity, he played a leading role in the planning and development of the organization.  In addition to this work in the Dominican Republic, HOPe has provided aid to a community in Honduras.
