Stroudsburg - East Stroudsburg Saint Patrick’s Day

2008 Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Pennsylvania (PA)
The Stroudsburg Parade is March 30th with step off at 1pm Stroudsburg High
School Rt 209 Monroe Co, PA the parade is a two mile route ending at East
Stroudsburg's Boro Hall on Crystal Street.
The Pocono Irish American Club will host its Saint Patrick’s Grand Marshall
Dinner Dance on Saturday March 15th at the Pocono Best Western
Ballroom. The cocktail hour begins at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. Tickets are $35
with a cash bar. There will be dancing and singing and the dinner is open to
the public however, tickets must be purchased in advance by calling Maureen
(570) 223-6708 or the Murray’s (570) 420-8083.
This years Grand Marshall’s will share the honor as they have shared most
everything in their lives. The Grand Marshall’s are Robert & Daisy Gallagher of
Gallagher & Gallagher worldwide Marketing and Communications firm of
Stroudsburg.
Robert & Daisy Gallagher are being honored for their extensive charity work in
Monroe County for the past 25 years. The Gallagher’s have served on numerous
and local community boards such as the United Way of Monroe County (Daisy
served on the board and was Chair of the Campaign), East Stroudsburg University,
Shepherd’s Maternity House, St. Matthew’s, Notre Dame, Red Cross, Big Brothers &
Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, RSVP.
The Gallagher’s are former New Yorkers who have enhanced our
community with their talents and kind hearts. Robert
Gallagher brings the
strong character of a 20 year veteran of the NY Fire Department. He was cited
for meritorious acts three times in the busiest firehouse in NYC. He is a
certified EMT as well as, a First Responder. Robert earned his graduate degree
from Adelphi University and has taught at St Barnabas School in NYC and at the
NY Fire Academy. In addition to teaching at Marywood University in Scranton,
Robert was an advisor and supervisor of student teachers.
The Gallagher family line originally hails from Dublin Ireland
then to Long Island City, Queens, NY. The Gallagher’s met in St. Patrick’s
grammar school and have been happily married since 1974. Three generations of
Gallagher’s were all married at St Patrick’s church in LIC, Robert’s
grandparents, his parents and Robert & Daisy. This power couple boasts two
successful adult children Scott and Lori, however, the newest gleam in their
eyes is from their three year old grandson, Colin Robert.
Among Daisy’s accomplishments, she has donated her time along with other leaders
for several local book projects including, “Women Who Made History in Monroe
County” and “The Backroads of the Pocono’s” with proceeds from the sales going
to the (Stroud) Hughes Library and RSVP. Daisy is also a published writer,
author and speaker. Most recently she authored “The Government Contractor’s
Resource Guide.” She is the recipient of many honors including the Rotary Club
of Stroudsburg’s Rotarian of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow, the United Way
Volunteer of the Year, the United States Small Business Administration Small
Business Person of the Year, the Pocono Mts. Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the
Year. She was named “One of Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business” She was
most recently also named “One of the Top Five Women in Business in the Nation”
at a ceremony in Washington DC where the President of the United States was in
attendance. She received the International Artemis Award for Business
Leadership at a ceremony held in Europe. The Gallagher’s have stayed grounded
despite all the awards. They keep strong to their Catholic faith, their loving
family and our Pocono Community.
We hope everyone in Monroe County considers celebrating the Gallagher’s
community spirit and the successes that the Robert and Daisy have brought to our
community. There are three venues the PIAC has for the St Patrick’s Day Parade.
The Fundraiser at Tannersville Inn with a hot buffet and entertainment, Sunday
March 9th at 1 pm, the Grand Marshall Dinner Saturday March 15 Pocono
Best Western, reservations needed and the Parade itself on Sunday March 30th
at 1:30 starting at the Stroudsburg High on Main St marching into East
Stroudsburg and ending at E’burg Borough Hall.
