29TH ANNUAL SOUTH SIDE IRISH ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE NAMES

2007 GRAND MARSHAL AND HONOREE

The South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade has named Bucks for Burn Camp the 2006 grand marshal of the 28th annual parade and Special Children’s Charities/Special Olympics Chicago the 2006 honoree.   Bucks for Burn Camp is an organization that works to generate funding to support a one-week summer camp for young burn survivors.  Special Children’s Charities/Special Olympics Chicago fosters the physical and mental health and improvement of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

“We are honored to have both Bucks for Burn Camp and Special Children’s Charities/Special Olympics Chicago lead the 2006 South Side Irish Parade,” said Mike Reynolds, parade coordinator.  “Our committee is pleased to recognize these organizations for their selfless commitment to enhancing the lives of others.”

Bucks for Burn Camp, the 2006 parade grand marshal, supports a camping event for children ages eight to 16 who have survived serious burns.  Sponsored by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, the camp strives to help build participants’ self esteem while teaching them how to manage physical and emotion scars resulting from their injuries.  Bucks for Burn Camp, the annual summer fundraiser, is a family affair featuring live music, food, and games, as well as demonstrations in fire safety.  The Bucks for Burn Camp fundraiser was started by Chicago firefighter and South Side resident, Tom Taff, who was also a victim of a serious burn.  The 2006 fundraiser will take place on Sunday, June 11 at 115 Bourbon Street restaurant and bar and located at 3359 W. 115th Street in Merrionette Park.  For more information on the event, visit www.bucksforburncamp.org.
