Sister Margaret will formerly receive the Grand Marshal Sash from 2003 Grand Marshal Louis Craig at the St. Anne's corned beef and cabbage dinner, March 8 2004.The dinner will be held at the Parish center.
Sister Margaret is the granddaughter of Irish immigrants who fled Ireland during the Great Potato Famine.
This year She celebrated the 50th Anniversary of her entrance into the New Hampshire Sisters of Mercy. Her partial Works of Mercy listed below
Until her retirement in 2002 she had spent a total of 47 years at Sacred Heart Hospital and Catholic Medical Center.
Some of her duties included, staff nurse, emergency room nurse, operating room nurse and supervisor, faculty member and then director of Sacred Heart hospital School of Nursing.
She was president of the CMC Networks, the community service arm of the hospital, initiating programs such as Our Place, the Great Day Program, the Prime Time Center for Healthy Aging, and the Parish Nurse Program.
She was Managing Director of Optima Health Community Services for five years.
Sister Margaret received the New Hampshire Hospital Association's Founder's Award in 2001
On September 18, 2003 the new dental care facility at the Visiting Nurse Association Child Care and Family Resource Center in Manchester was formally opened and dedicated to Sister Margaret Ahern who for several years had dreamed of having such a facility. She says it serves the "poorest of the poor children.
The Sister Margaret Ahern Nursing Scholarship was established as a tribute to her years of service.
